Supermodel and wellness devotee Miranda Kerr launched her clean skin care brand, Kora Organics, in 2009 in her native Australia.
While the former Victoria’s Secret model, who has a background in nutrition and is a certified health coach, shares that she’s always been “passionate about health and wellness,” it was her mother’s cancer diagnosis that inspired her to launch her line. “My mum was diagnosed with breast cancer when I was 16, and as a family, we really looked at everything we were doing,” says Kerr, who admits to being shocked at “the products people were putting on their skin and eating daily” and how they could be contributing to illness. With that in mind, Kerr created Kora Organics using only certified organic ingredients known for their high efficacy.
To create her line, Kerr worked alongside organic chemists. She’s also involved in “every single detail” of the business, from product development to packaging. “Part of taking care of ourselves is what we put on our skin,” says Kerr, who shares that she is baffled that women are only told to be careful about what they put on their skin when pregnant. In February, Kerr gave birth to her fourth child, Pierre, at 40, making her a mom to four boys. “Why shouldn’t we be careful all the time and nourish ourselves like we would our own child?” she says.
Ahead, Kerr shares 11 of her wellness essentials with CNN Underscored.
“I love the Theragun. I have the mini one; it’s super handy and such a great tool,” says Kerr, who uses the massage gun pre- and post-workout. “I use it on my legs, feet and shoulders,” she says, admitting it also came in handy when she was pregnant to relieve swollen feet and backaches. “I didn’t use it on my belly, but it was nice to put my legs up and do a little massage,” she says. This portable massage gun provides a deep-tissue massage to alleviate muscle soreness and fatigue. Featuring an ergonomic grip, the Theragun Mini comes with three attachments to target different areas of the body.
Kerr’s morning skin care routine starts in the shower using this pH-balancing gel face cleanser infused with turmeric, aloe and a natural sugar complex. “It’s so invigorating and it's foaming but without any nasty chemicals in there,” she says. After using the cleanser, she exfoliates her skin with the brand’s Turmeric Brightening and Exfoliating Scrub and then spritzes her face with the Minty Mineral Hydration Mist. “It’s so refreshing, and I also use it throughout the day,” she says of the spray.
Kerr finishes her natural makeup look with this editor-loved mascara from clean beauty brand Ilia. Thanks to its formula of arginine (an amino acid that helps the body build protein) and organic shea butter, the mascara nourishes and conditions lashes. “It has buildable coverage and really lifts your lashes and adds volume,” Kerr says. To give her face a healthy flush of color, she makes her own blush with rosemary. “I put it on my cheeks and eyelids, and it really makes the blue pop in my eyes,” she shares.
The model’s makeup mantra? “I like to keep it kinda simple,” says Kerr, who is a fan of clean makeup brand RMS, which was founded by makeup artist Rose-Marie Swift. “She’s a good friend and used to do my makeup for Victoria’s Secret. They have this little concealer in a pot, and what I do is put a drop of my Noni Glow Face Oil in it. Then, I use my brush to put it all over my face to create a natural look.” The certified organic 3-in-1 cream concealer, color corrector and tinted moisturizer creates a lightweight natural finish to cover dark circles, blemishes and redness. It’s also infused with hydrating, skin-enhancing ingredients like coconut, jojoba oil and beeswax. To keep her lips nourished and add a hint of color, Kerr uses the brand’s Legendary Serum Lipstick in the soft rose shade Miranda.
Kerr favors fashion brands that offer organic and sustainable clothes, and throughout her pregnancy, she eschewed maternity clothes for basics and pants in larger sizes from Mate, like this oversized cotton T-shirt. “I usually wear bright colors, but when I’m pregnant, I lean into black,” she says. Made from certified organic cotton, this oversized, boxy T-shirt has a classic rib crew neck. “I also love Pact for their coastal lifestyle pieces and pants," she adds.
As part of her wellness regimen, Kerr starts her day with lemon-infused water and then makes pure celery juice. “It has really helped my digestion and energy levels and is high in antioxidants,” she shares. Operating at 80 RPM to minimize heat and oxidation, the juicer also has an automatic pulp ejection system. “Some juicers can heat up the ingredients, but this keeps it cold,” she says of the machine, which uses masticating technology to extract the maximum amount of nutrients, vitamins, flavor and juice from fruit and vegetables.
To keep her body hydrated and radiant, Kerr applies the Noni Glow Body Oil morning and night. Infused with the brand’s signature noni oil derived from the fruit of the noni tree, a small evergreen native to Australia, the skin-boosting ingredient is packed with vitamins C and A, flavonoids, potassium, linoleic acid and amino acids to boost elasticity, reduce inflammation and provide superior hydration. The body oil also contains a nourishing antioxidant blend of rosehip and sunflower seed oils. “I’ve used this oil since I was pregnant with my first son, Flynn, and through all my pregnancies it has helped prevent stretch marks,” she says.
Kerr shares she’s a fan of the classic shampoo and conditioner from Rahua, a hair care brand that formulates its products with sustainable ingredients that grow in the Amazon rainforest. “It’s actually hard to find clean hair care brands, and this works really well on my hair,” she says. In addition to Rahua oil, the antioxidant-rich shampoo is infused with organic coconut oil, green tea, raspberry leaf and quinoa to deeply nourish the hair and scalp, promote healthy growth and boost shine.
As she approached her 40s, Kerr switched up her usual calming workouts like yoga and Pilates for weightlifting, running and boxing. “I was like, let’s see how much muscle I can build,” she says before admitting, “I never thought I would like boxing. It’s so aggressive, but I was really getting into it, and then I got pregnant with Pierre.” For her running and workout kicks, Kerr shares that the “Nike Pegasus is the one for me, and I like the bright colors.” Created with responsive cushioning and a comfy foam midsole, it’s a durable trainer for every day. Engineered mesh on the upper increases the shoe’s breathability, making it as light as air. Kerr pairs her trainers with these black Bloch leggings, which she calls her “absolute favorite.”
Kerr has one of these salt lamps in every bedroom in her house and says she has also taken one with her to the hospital birthing suite during all of her pregnancies. “They are very calming. I turn them on every night,” she says. Hand-carved from authentic Himalayan salt blocks sourced from Pakistan, the lamp features a dimmer setting so you can adjust the ambience. According to Kerr, the salt lamps induce the same feelings of relaxation you get from the beach. “When you’re at the beach you inhale negative ions, which are very therapeutic and relaxing, and these are supposed to do the same,” she explains.
The mom of four also looks to organic clothing for her kids. For her baby, Kerr loves “the cute, organic pajamas” from Monica + Andy. These sweet zip-up one-piece jammies are made from organic cotton and are perfect for newborns up to 24 months. They feature an asymmetrical zipper from the neck to the left leg, so you can easily take them on and off and have handy, convertible fold-over feet.
