Sometimes, everyday products our editors use don’t make it into our in-depth, long-form comparative pieces in which we vigorously test similar products head-to-head. That’s where our Editors’ Picks come in — where we highlight everyday products we personally stand by and use on a daily basis, and think you should too.

Periods are nobody’s favorite time of the month. From feeling sluggish to dealing with hormonal changes, aches, cramping and more, it’s hard to feel at your best. But, over the years (and over hundreds of periods), we’ve fine-tuned our lineup of period products that help make our monthly cycles a little more bearable.

Ahead, we’ve rounded up some of our editors’ favorite products that help with managing our periods, relieving cramps and bloating and giving our bodies a little extra self-love when they need it most.

Menstrual cups

I’ve written about my switch to a zero-waste period care routine and all my favorite period underwear, menstrual discs and other products I’ve been using over the past couple of years. At the top of that list is the Cora Soft Fit Disc. While getting the hang of using period discs took some time, it was so worth it. This one is beginner-friendly, easy to clean and comfortable to insert and remove. The best part is that unlike with pads and tampons, I can go 12 leak- and stress-free hours without needing to switch it. — Sophie Shaw, beauty and fashion editor

I switched from pads and tampons to the Saalt menstrual cup four years ago and have never looked back. The Saalt was relatively easy to get the hang of as a first-time cup user, and it still serves me well now that I’m a pro. It comes in two different sizes and firmness options and wears comfortably for up to 12 hours (yes, that includes overnight!). But by far the biggest advantage to the cup is all the money I’ve saved now that I don’t need to stock up on pads and tampons every month. — Chelsea Stone, editorial director

I too have never looked back after converting to the menstrual cup life. I found the Lena via an online quiz, chose it from their top three suggestions because, I will admit, I liked that it sounded like my name, and we have been living together in beautiful period bliss ever since. I just deal with it when I wake up and then again before bed, and don’t even think about it the rest of the time. No more trying to optimize tampon change times! No more being paranoid about whether I have enough left in the cabinet or my purse! It’s been perfect for me on multiple levels, as 1) a lazy and budget-conscious person, 2) someone who is concerned about sustainability, and 3) a frequent traveler who would rather not worry about whether I’m going to need a swap in the middle of a long flight or bus ride. Try it, it's not scary, I promise. — Rena Behar, copy editor

Heating pads and products

I practically live on this heating pad during my cycle. The heat helps me manage any discomfort from cramps and back pain I experience. It’s large and malleable, so I can fold it into a preferred shape and customize my heat preference with the three provided levels. I take advantage of the extra-long cord to stay relaxed from both my bed and couch. — Gareen Puglia, associate testing writer

This cute plush was a gift from a friend that knows I love capybaras, and he’s become a great companion for that time of the month. Because he’s microwavable, he can be used like a heating pad to ease cramps and discomfort. The plush is filled with natural grains that hold onto the heat, as well as French lavender that releases a relaxing scent. And if you aren’t obsessed with the world’s largest rodent, like me, there are plenty of other Warmies to choose from, including dogs, cats, a panda bear and more. – Sophie Shaw, beauty and fashion editor

On those first few days of your cycle when all you want to do is curl up with a heating pad (and sob) but simply have so much to do, these Midol Heat Patches will truly save the day. These handy, heart-shaped patches can be worn under clothes for that extra boost of pain relief. The heat helps relax muscles and promote blood flow, just like a heating pad. You can wear them over your lower abdomen or back for up to 8 hours. — Carolina Gazal, associate testing writer

Cramps happen, and when they hit, you’ll find me camped out on my couch with this extra-large heating pad wrapped around my torso. The pad cover is actually very soft and, dare I say, cuddly? It also heats up quickly so I can get relief faster. — Chelsea Stone, editorial director

Period clothing

When the time inevitably comes, so does the bloat. I always feel incredibly self-conscious around this time, and sometimes you just need a little extra support. That’s where shapewear comes in! This shapewear does everything for me and more. It’s super helpful when you still want to wear something tight like a cute dress or skirt but want to hide some of that bloat. It hugs all the right things in the right places and makes me feel a bit more confident during this time. It’s super soft to the touch and plant-based as well, suiting all your shapewear needs. — Gabriella Triolo, social coordinator

Whenever it’s that time of the month, I find it harder to sleep for many reasons: cramps, headaches and overheating just to name a few. But one of the main reasons I can’t sleep is because I’m worrying about, well, my pad or tampon not being absorbent enough while sleeping during the heaviest part of my flow. Ever since I got these comfy but super-absorbent period shorts, I’ve had peace of mind while sleeping on my period. I know the idea of them sounds a bit gross, but I simply rinse them out after I use them and toss them in the washer. — Tamara Kraus, senior lifestyle editor

Self-care period products

When it’s that time of the month, there is no worse feeling than cramps. It is virtually impossible to stop them altogether, but I have found some ways to make them a little less terrible. I’ve noticed that caffeine makes them 10x worse, and that’s why I try to stay away from it around this time. That is, until I discovered Kamana. Not only does this not have caffeine, but it tastes just like the real deal with using just one single ingredient. It gives me my fix and even that extra energy you need, especially during this time. — Gabriella Triolo, social coordinator

We all know one of the only solutions to feeling better on your period is chocolate. I always crave chocolate chip cookies when it’s that time, but I also want to make sure I’m not indulging too much. Being from Long Island, Tate’s Bake Shop has always been a staple in my household, so when I found out they released a mini version of their cookies, I couldn’t be more excited. They’re perfect for snacking and will satisfy all those dessert cravings and more. — Gabriella Triolo, social coordinator

I always have the worst breakouts you could possibly imagine at this time, and trust me, I’ve tried everything. When I came across this acne gel, all my skincare problems started to clear up. It’s great for really oily and acne-prone skin and targets all the nasty redness you don’t want, especially when it gets bad around this time of the month. I love how it is also clean, cruelty-free, and made with recyclable packaging. — Gabriella Triolo, social coordinator
