Tiny, impoverished Pacific Island nations have become the focus of intense diplomatic activity from China, as Beijing's top diplomat wraps up an island-hopping tour of at least eight countries. While China failed to strike a deal between countries this time, the Chinese visit prompted Western governments to scramble to secure influence in the region.
