If there’s one thing that can unite dog and cat lovers, it’s their never-ending battle with hair and fur. No matter what furry friend you have wandering around your home, chances are your floors, rugs and furniture are coated with hair. Depending on the type of dog or cat you have, this hair can be an absolute pain to get rid of. That’s why we tried the ChomChom, Amazon’s No. 1 bestseller in dog hair removal products to see if it actually works.

This easy-to-use, easy-to-clean pet hair remover works surprisingly well. Anyone who’s fed up with using lint rollers and vacuums to clean their couches will love this reusable hair remover.

How I found the ChomChom

I have two dogs, so it’s safe to say there’s a lot of dog hair in my house. With floors mostly made of hardwood, vacuuming up their hair on the floor has never been too big of an issue. Getting hair off the couch, on the other hand, is a whole other story. My older dog Miso has black fur and is constantly leaving hair all over our couch, which she spends 80% of her life napping on. And because her hair is black and our couch is light tan, it really needs to be cleaned every couple of days.

I’m always on the lookout for new pet products, so when I saw that Underscored readers would snag the ChomChom up like crazy whenever it went on sale, I knew I had to give it a try. So I put my order in and put it to the test.

Why it’s a score

I love the ChomChom. After trying to clean my couch with sticky lint rollers and even a Dyson vacuum, the process would always be so arduous and time-consuming. I quickly realized that using lint rollers is a no-go since each sticky section would fill with hair in approximately two seconds, and my Dyson still took a solid amount of elbow grease and multiple passes to pick up the hair embedded in my couch.

Once I got the ChomChom, I was amazed by how easy it is to use and just how well it actually works. I’m not going to pretend like it picked up every single hair in one pass, but the fact that it outperforms my name-brand vacuum (the now-discontinued, low-level V7 Animal) is a win in my book.

The ChomChom has a fur-grabbing brush inside of a plastic roller that, when you roll it back and forth on a surface, creates an electrostatic charge that helps lift and collect pet hair. Cleaning with the ChomChom is as simple as rolling the device back and forth over couch cushions and pillows a few times. It is quite a bit of back and forth, especially if you’re cleaning a large couch, but thanks to the ChomChom’s lightweight build, your arm doesn’t get tired like it would if you were doing the same motion with a vacuum.

Not only is it great at picking up hair, but the ChomChom can also be cleaned in just a few seconds. On the back of the roller is a little door that opens to reveal all the hair that you’ve trapped during your cleaning session, making it easy to toss all that fur straight into the trash.

Ever since I got a ChomChom it’s been my go-to hair cleaner. Gone are the days of throwing away dozens of sticky papers or pushing a heavy vacuum back and forth over my couch. The ChomChom is lightweight, easy to clean and better at picking up hair than any other pet hair removal device I’ve tried. For $25 (and often cheaper when it goes on sale), it’s a no-brainer for any pet owner.
