No. of pests treated: 1 (Additional services available through Pest Authority)

Mosquito Authority at a glance

Mosquito Authority has served customers since 2002 and is our top mosquito control provider.

Fast facts

  • Mosquito Authority was founded over two decades ago by Joey Osbourne as a family-owned company in North Carolina.
  • Mosquito Authority is a national company servicing 48 states.
  • It’s one of the only pest control companies we’ve reviewed that has kept a perfect rating with the Better Business Bureau (BBB)*.

What we like

Mosquito Authority offers free retreatments if you’re bothered by mosquitoes between scheduled visits, which means you’re guaranteed to be satisfied. The company also doesn’t require contracts or commitments, so it’s easy to get a solution to your mosquito problem and cancel if you need to.

What we don’t like

Some Mosquito Authority locations provide general pest control, but others focus solely on mosquitoes. It may not be ideal for customers who need general pest control for multiple insects or wildlife. Despite its service reaching 48 states, Mosquito Authority does have limited service areas. You’ll have to check local branches to see if they service your ZIP code.

Mosquito Authority pros and cons

Mosquito Authority is a reliable company, as reflected in its perfect 5-star customer review score on the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and its A+ rating on the same site. The company also hasn’t received any complaints from the BBB. These are all good signs that you’ll be satisfied with your service.

There are some downsides to consider before contacting your local branch. First off, the company doesn’t offer free inspections, so you won’t be able to compare a quote from Mosquito Authority with other companies without paying a fee for the inspection and estimate. There aren’t quotes available online either, even for standard treatments, so it’s less convenient than companies like Viking Pest Control, which offers pricing and the option to purchase services online.

Pros

  • Outstanding reputation
  • Over 20 years of experience
  • Integrated approach to mosquito control guarantees results
  • Having no contracts makes cancellation a breeze

Cons

  • Requires phone call for properties over a half-acre
  • Many locations only treat for mosquitoes and ticks
  • No free inspections

How much does Mosquito Authority cost?

Depending on your location, you can expect to pay somewhere between $70 and $120 per visit if you buy individual treatments, or between $66 and $120 per treatment if you buy a multi-visit package. Keep in mind that these prices don’t include tax, which will vary based on your local tax rate. The table below includes some prices we pulled for four locations.

Long Island, New York $87.50

*These prices are also for a property under a half-acre. Prices will vary based on location and property size. All properties larger than a half-acre require a phone call and an in-person inspection to get a price quote. Call the Mosquito Authority at 888-457-6630 or contact your local branch directly.

What plans and services does Mosquito Authority offer?

Mosquito Authority has a stand-alone plan that includes eight treatments, one every 21 days during mosquito season. Note that these multi-treatment plans are only available in some locations. When purchasing a plan, you can choose to pay for all eight treatments upfront or pay one at a time, with the option to back out after any of the property visits.

Beyond paying upfront for multiple treatments or on a per-service basis, Mosquito Authority doesn’t offer any plan customization options.

The company states on its website that it also treats ticks, but no tick treatment plans are mentioned online. Mosquito Authority’s sister company, Pest Authority, treats a wide variety of other insects and wildlife. If you need treatment for ticks or other pests, call your local Pest Authority branch to see what services are available.

Mosquito Authority add-ons and optional features

Mosquito Authority offers only one option to customize your service: You can ask the company to use its all-natural mosquito treatments. This service includes the same property inspection and recommendations to reduce the mosquito population naturally that the standard treatment does, but the repellent used is more environmentally friendly, as it’s made from essential oils and botanicals.

There’s no information available about the cost of natural mosquito treatment, so you’ll have to contact your local Mosquito Authority branch for a quote. Natural choices might not be available in all areas.

What pests does Mosquito Authority not treat?

Mosquito Authority specializes in mosquito treatments and offers tick treatments in some locations. You’ll need to turn to a different provider for all other insects and wildlife.

Mosquito Authority’s sister company, Pest Authority, does treat a much wider variety of pests, including the following, but these are not handled by Mosquito Authority directly:

  • Ants
  • Bats
  • Bedbugs
  • Beetles
  • Birds
  • Centipedes
  • Crickets
  • Earwigs
  • Fleas
  • Hornets
  • Millipedes
  • Moths
  • Opossums
  • Pill bugs
  • Raccoons
  • Rodents
  • Silverfish
  • Spiders
  • Squirrels
  • Termites
  • Wasps

Mosquito Authority customer experience

Mosquito Authority doesn’t have customizable online quotes, so you need to call your local branch if your property is larger than a half-acre. For smaller property sizes, the process to sign up is simple. You just put in your address and contact information, provide a payment option and wait for your service to be scheduled. Your tech will complete a property inspection, make recommendations to prevent mosquitoes from breeding and carry out the first application.

We called our local branch to see what that experience would be like. After a quick automated message that the call would be recorded, we were connected directly to a human representative. The rep was friendly and genial, and they answered a few questions we had to clear up pricing and services.

Mosquito Authority reviews are unmatched, with perfect scores on the BBB and at least some locations with perfect scores on Yelp, like the branch in Staten Island, New York. Customers are generally pleased with the service they get, which suggests that the company takes its satisfaction guarantee seriously. The following reviews help paint a picture of what you can expect when you hire Mosquito Authority.

The fine print: Terms and conditions you should know

Mosquito Authority doesn’t require service contracts, unlike some other pest control companies. You agree to a series of one-off treatments, which you can end at any time, or you pay upfront for the same number of treatments. There is no fine print that could end up locking you into a service you don’t want.

With Mosquito Authority, you can get free retreatments in between the scheduled services if you still have a mosquito problem during that time. You can report your issue directly to your local branch for extra service at no additional cost.

Mosquito Authority vs. competitors

Given the overwhelmingly positive customer review scores and the company’s satisfaction guarantee, Mosquito Authority is one of the best companies for mosquito treatments. Based on pricing from third-party sites, it’s about the same cost as treatments from competitors, such as Mosquito Joe (between $50 and $80 each).

Company ratings suggest that Mosquito Authority is more likely to leave you satisfied and your property mosquito-free. These providers all have similar guarantees, although Mosquito Joe’s has a money-back guarantee, which is superior to the additional retreatments Mosquito Authority offers.

Mosquito Authority also treats very few pests, so it’s only suitable if you’re dealing with mosquitoes or, in some locations, ticks. However, the company’s specialization in mosquitoes could lead to better service.

Methodology

We evaluated 20 pest control companies based on 1,500 data points, including pricing, pest treatment options, customer service, guarantees and more, to find the best pest control companies available in every state. Companies that serve wider audiences and provide a larger breadth of services rank higher, as do providers that maintain high customer ratings and trust scores and offer affordable but reliable pest control services.

We rank companies according to our weighting system, which prioritizes providers likely to permanently solve your pest problems. Our editorial team has no knowledge of partnerships.
