Harvey Windows at a glance

Harvey Windows, one of our top window installation and replacement companies, is a sound option for East Coast homeowners who want affordable vinyl or high-end wood windows.

Fast facts

  • Harvey Windows has been around since 1961, gathering over 60 years of experience to instill confidence that you’re getting high-quality, time-tested windows.
  • Harvey Windows services only 23 states, almost all east of the Mississippi River.
  • The company has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and 4.77 stars (out of 5) from BBB reviewers.*

What we like

One aspect of Harvey Windows that stood out was its customer service. Reading through reviews, it’s easy to see that the company prioritizes customer satisfaction and succeeds in creating a positive experience.

Harvey carries a wide range of window styles to suit most window needs, including 10 of the most common styles. Of the window companies we reviewed, only three others provide the same variety of styles: Atrium Windows and Doors, Champion Windows and Window World, Inc. If you want a less-common window style, Harvey can likely help.

What we don’t like

While Harvey manufactures more window styles than many competitors, it only has vinyl and wood frames. Having options for aluminum, fiberglass and composite (Fibrex) frames would be nice, especially since fiberglass and composite are some of the more energy-efficient materials. So, Harvey might not be the best option if you live in an extreme climate.

Harvey also uses third-party installers, which isn’t ideal. Of course, the customer review ratings speak for themselves, but there’s always a higher chance that using third parties will lead to delays or issues during the installation.

Additionally, Harvey Windows are available in just these 23 states:

  • Alabama
  • Connecticut
  • Delaware
  • Georgia
  • Illinois
  • Indiana
  • Kentucky
  • Maine
  • Maryland
  • Massachusetts
  • Minnesota
  • New Hampshire
  • New Jersey
  • New York
  • North Carolina
  • Ohio
  • Pennsylvania
  • Rhode Island
  • South Carolina
  • Tennessee
  • Vermont
  • Virginia
  • West Virginia

Harvey Windows pros and cons

Harvey supplies quality warranty coverage to customers. It includes a limited lifetime warranty for non-glass components (standard among competitors) and 20 years of glass coverage (slightly below average, as a limited lifetime warranty is common). Harvey manufactures its windows in the United States.

The window maker does not have as many color options as you will find from many competitors — two interior options compared to the industry average of 11, and 10 exterior colors compared to the industry average of 18. The company provides customized color matching, but having more stock color options would be nice to avoid custom pricing.

Harvey is also solely a manufacturer, so you must find another company to complete the window installation. Harvey does not offer any window repair services.

Pros

  • Lifetime warranty on non-glass components
  • Made in the United States
  • Customer review scores around 90% higher than average
  • Manufactures most window styles

Cons

  • Nine fewer interior color options and eight fewer exterior color options than many competitors
  • No in-house installation or repair services
  • Only makes vinyl and wood windows
  • Limited service area in 23 states, mostly on the East Coast

Harvey Windows customization and add-ons

Harvey has five ways to customize your windows. They are:

  • Glass options: Energy Star glass is available, which includes “ThermaLock” technology. This technology includes insulating argon gas between multiple glass layers, warm edge spacers and low-emissivity (low-E) coatings. Tinting is also available. SunShield, SunShieldPlus and SunGain Plus are other low-E options.
  • Grids: You can choose between simulated divided lites, exterior applied and grids between glass options. You can also customize your grid pattern, with some popular options including Colonial, Prairie, Tudor and Gothic.
  • Sashes: There are three sash configurations available: even, oriel and cottage.
  • Screens: You can choose half screens or full screens for any Harvey window. You can also choose two screen materials to optimize views or durability and try two screen frame options — rolled aluminum and extruded aluminum.
  • Color options: Harvey Windows offers three vinyl frame colors, six colors for non-Majesty Wood products. It also has two interior finishes and five colors for Majesty products. Harvey can also customize your exterior paint color to match your home or existing windows.

Finally, Harvey Windows manufactures custom window shapes and sizes, so its windows can be designed to replace non-standard windows.

Prices for these customizations will vary based on your retailer, window size, and window style. For accurate pricing information, contact a Harvey Windows dealer for an estimate.

What does Harvey Windows not cover?

The biggest drawback to Harvey Windows is that it is so limited in the window frame materials it sells. The company doesn’t have the following standard options that many of its competitors do:

  • Aluminum window frames
  • Composite window frames
  • Fiberglass window frames

Harvey’s window styles are comprehensive, although the company doesn’t carry folding or corner windows. To be fair, only four of the 24 window companies we reviewed carry all these options, so a full menu isn’t common in the industry.

How much does Harvey Windows cost?

Harvey Windows does not post prices on its customer-facing website, and because it sells its products solely through third parties, the only way to get accurate pricing is to contact a dealer for an estimate. However, we were able to get some prices from third-party sources.

The average cost of a window from Harvey Windows is around $800, and prices range from about $360 up to $5,000, depending on the size, style, customizations and frame material. We’ve included typical pricing below based on a few metrics to help you get a rough estimate for your specific window. But keep in mind that you must consider window type, frame material, glass material, product line and other details to get an accurate price.

Harvey has four available product lines. Price ranges for various window types are:

  • Slimline: $500 to $1,400
  • Classic: $600 to $1,500
  • Tribute: $650 to $1,750
  • Majesty: $850 to $3,200

Harvey windows are available with vinyl or wood frames, with vinyl windows being more affordable. Again, depending on the type of window you want — double-hung vs. bay, for instance — the price ranges are:

  • Vinyl frame: $360 to $1,800
  • Wood frame: $800 to $3,200

Finally, if you’re shopping for a specific window style, use the prices below for Harvey Windows by style. These ranges take into account the window line you pick, plus the frame, etc.:

  • Awning window: $400 to $1,000
  • Bay window/bow window: $850 to $1,300
  • Casement window: $340 to $900
  • Double-hung window: $340 to $900
  • Garden window: $1,200 to $5,000
  • Hopper window: $300 to $600
  • Single-hung window: $340 to $700
  • Sliding window: $750 to $1,600

Savings and discounts

We could not find any discounts from Harvey Windows or its retailers at the time of writing. Regardless, you can save money with Harvey Windows in other ways, including:

  • Take advantage of government rebates. Many of the products from Harvey Windows are Energy Star-certified, and the U.S. Department of Energy offers a tax credit in the amount of 30% of your window cost if you install a certified product. The credit runs through 2032, and the maximum credit is $600.
  • Use your warranty to your advantage. Harvey Windows gives customers a 20-year glass warranty and a lifetime warranty for non-glass materials. If you run into an issue that requires a window repair, your warranty could save you money.
  • Choose your frame material carefully. While Harvey sells only two frame materials, you should choose your windows wisely. Harvey’s vinyl windows are more affordable than wood, usually costing between $400 and $1,400 less per window than wood. However, wood windows provide better insulation and will save you more money on heating and cooling bills, especially if you live in an extreme climate.

Harvey Windows customer service and experience

Harvey Windows’ customer service department is available only by phone. The company’s website is organized and includes abundant information about frame materials, customization options and other details to help you choose the right windows. However, it doesn’t have a live chat option or a mobile app for communication.

I called Harvey Windows as a secret shopper to gauge the speed of its response time and the quality of front-end customer service. I was pleased to have waited on hold for less than a minute. The representative with whom I spoke was cheerful and friendly, and they answered questions about the window options, energy efficiency and finding a third-party installer.

I also read through dozens of customer reviews and found that most people are pleased with the company’s communication and professionalism and even its third-party installers. The reviews below provide an overview of what it’s like to work with Harvey Windows in the best and worst-case scenarios.

Harvey Windows’s installation process

The installation process when ordering windows from Harvey is similar to that of other manufacturers. I’ll outline it below from start to finish so you know what to expect.

  1. Initial inspection and estimate: Your first step is to find a Harvey Windows dealer and ask them for an estimate. Keep in mind that Harvey is solely a manufacturer, so this will be a third-party company. The rep will come to your home to take measurements and then provide an estimate for the materials and installation labor.
  2. Contract signing: If you’re satisfied with the estimate and want to proceed, you’ll sign the contract. You’ll then be required to make the down payment. This can vary based on the installer since they’re all third parties, but the industry standard is 50% of the total.
  3. Product ordering: Once your contract is signed, your installer will order the windows from Harvey. Based on customer reviews, delivery takes an average of three months, but it could take longer, especially for custom windows or if demand is high.
  4. Installation: When your installer receives the windows from Harvey, they’ll schedule your installation date. Timelines can vary based on which installer you use. The actual installation will usually take one to two days.
  5. Post-installation: After the installation is completed, you’ll contact Harvey directly if you have any issues with the windows. They may refer you to a third-party dealer for the fix, but reviews of Harvey Windows and Doors suggest that the process is typically smooth and straightforward despite a third party involved.

Harvey Windows vs. competitors

Harvey Windows is an outstanding option for homeowners who know they want vinyl or wood windows. Compared to most competitors, the company’s frame options are severely limited, but it carries a wide range of window styles in those two frame materials, including custom windows to fit just about any window project.

More importantly, Harvey Windows has the second-highest BBB customer review rating of any of the 24 window companies we reviewed, the highest Trustpilot rating, and it’s tied with two other companies — Pella and Milgard — for the highest Google Reviews rating. The bottom line is that Harvey Windows performs better than most competitors and is a stellar choice if you don’t mind limited window frame options.

Methodology

We reviewed 24 of the largest U.S. window companies to see how Harvey Windows compared to your other options. We considered 58 data points to compare the companies and looked specifically at customer service, customization options, window frame materials, and window styles available. We used a custom weighting system to compare companies based on the factors that matter most to customers like you.

Our ratings and scores are unbiased, so everything is based on hard data. You can always trust our reviews because we don’t let company partnerships affect our scores or our opinions of different window manufacturers and servicers.

Finally, the author of this article worked as a property manager and managed repairs for hundreds of properties, specifically on the East Coast. I have used Harvey Windows and many other companies, so I have real-world experience with them beyond just looking at hard data.
