It’s probably some latent love of the Palm Pre and the magnetic touchstone it debuted over a decade earlier, but I loved MagSafe from day one. What Palm didn’t have going for it, however, was a virtual wellspring of accessories that sprang up seemingly overnight to support MagSafe. Apple, however, has created an ecosystem of devices surrounding its flagship phone as only Apple can do.
Wireless chargers and battery packs are the obvious accessories, but there have also been grips, pop sockets, cooling fans and even tripod mounts that all pair well with your iPhone. A wallet is also a natural accessory because, like your phone, it’s something you take with you everywhere. Sure, you might be putting all your eggs in one basket, but you’re also freeing up an extra pocket in your pants, coat or bag, so we’ll call this one a draw.
MagSafe wallets are one of the most prolific types of accessory out there, so there’s a wide variety of wallets to choose from. I’ve spent some time testing these and have come up with a list of the best MagSafe wallets you can buy in 2024.
Apple makes its own accessories for the iPhone and MagSafe, and one of the most popular is the FineWoven Wallet. This wallet has one of the thinnest profiles of all the wallets in this list, which is important if you want to slip your iPhone into and out of your pocket easily. The case holds three cards and it connects to Apple's Find My network, so if you misplace it, your phone can tell you when and where it last connected.
FineWoven has had some controversy in the past, with some users claiming that it can wear down quickly, so you might want to keep that in mind if you go this route. It's also one of the most expensive wallets on this list.
You might be familiar with Moft because of its origami-style stands that you can attach to your tablet or laptop. Moft also uses that same folding style to make its magnetic wallet stand. The case itself holds two cards, and it's a little tight with just those two. But it serves a dual purpose by flipping down a stand that can prop your phone upright for hands-free viewing. It comes in a variety of colors and has a very slim profile. The wallet can hold your iPhone in either portrait or landscape, which is another plus.
If you have more than just a couple of cards or if you like to carry cash with you (or both), the Spigen Lock Fit case is a slim box you can attach to the back of your phone. The latch slides up and down to lock and unlock, so you won't accidentally open the wallet and spill your cards everywhere. Inside, you get two card holders for four or five credit cards or IDs and an elastic strap to hold cash or any other scraps of paper you need. It's very thick at 0.6 inches, so definitely keep that in mind. But overall, if you like to carry a lot with you, this is a good choice.
One of the downsides of a MagSafe wallet is, if you want to charge with MagSafe or using a MagSafe stand charger, you need to take the wallet off. That means it's possible to misplace it. ESR has a solution that can help. The ESR MagSafe wallet has built-in Find My functionality (along with an internal battery). If you lose your wallet, you can just open the Find My app and locate it. The battery lasts for about three months on a charge and uses a proprietary pogo pin connector, so be careful not to lose it.
The wallet also opens out to turn itself into a stand to prop up the phone, and there's a loop on the back that you can pop up to use as a finger grip. Even with all that, the wallet still has a relatively thin profile at 0.51 inches.
The Spigen Smart Fold 2 is a compact little wallet that can hold up to three cards. It also includes a kickstand so you can prop your phone up for hands-free usage. A finger notch at the bottom of the cardholder and in the middle of the holder makes getting cards out easier, though not by a lot. The second finger notch only becomes available if you take the wallet off your phone, which isn't terribly convenient. But if you want a cardholder that has a kickstand and a slim profile, this is a great choice.
This one is a little bit of a stretch, since it's not a MagSafe wallet in the same sense as the rest of the wallets on this list. Instead, it's a wallet with a MagSafe component. Twelve South's BookBook iPhone case has a magnetic case that attaches to a separate wallet component. That component looks and feels like a leather-bound book. It's magnetic, so you can remove the phone from the case when you want to charge and reconnect it when you're done. The wallet portion holds up to four cards, one with a window, and it has a pocket for cash as well. It's expensive, but it's absolutely a head-turner, and sure to be adored by the book lovers in your life
You know how you can buy a tablet case with an origami-style cover that flips around into a stand? Spigen designed one for your phone. This wallet can hold just two cards, but it has a magnetic cover that covers the cards when they're not in use. When you want a kickstand, you can fold the cover around itself to prop up the phone as well. It's a nifty solution with the thinnest profile on this list, but the fact that it only holds two cards means you'll have to be something of a minimalist to use it. But if you are, this is a great choice that's also relatively inexpensive.
This metal wallet stands out for a few reasons. First, it's crafted from aerospace aluminum with elastic bands that hold your cards in place. Second, it comes with a money clip on the back that you can slide your cash (or paper notes) into. Third, the wallet comes with two clips — one that can hold an Apple AirTag and one that cannot. The reason for that is because AirTags are pretty thick (when compared to a minimalist wallet) and can add extra bulk to the wallet that you may not want. The ExtreLife Magsafe wallet is a great contender, because it can hold up to 10 cards, which is by far the most on this list. The back of the wallet has three pockets for up to three cards each. That part opens up into a kickstand, and behind that is a window cardholder for your ID. The wallet is made of vegan leather, and an elastic band holds the cards in place on the back, which is great, because you can expand it out for more cards if you need to. How thin the wallet is depends greatly on how many cards you're carrying, but overall, it's still pretty thin.
