Earlier this year, “Euphoria” actress Sydney Sweeney became the first-ever global ambassador for Korean beauty brand Laneige. The makeup and skin care brand, which has been around since the ’90s, is beloved for its ultra-hydrating water and hyaluronic-based moisturizers and its face and lip sleeping masks. “I love to be able to support brands that I personally use because I have such a long journey of finding the right products for my skin,” Sweeney shares.
For the “White Lotus” star, maintaining the health and appearance of her skin has always been important to her. “I always double cleanse — it’s important when you wear makeup and are traveling, and I hydrate with sleeping masks,” she says. Sweeney is also an advocate of wearing SPF and shares that when she was filming her rom-com “Anyone But You,” which was released last year, she slathered on sunscreen to protect her skin from the harsh Australian sun. “I was the only one on set not to get sunburned,” she says.
The 26-year-old has also been having fun with her looks on the red carpet. At this year’s Met Gala, which is held every May at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, she evoked old Hollywood glamour in a fairy-tale blue tulle Miu Miu gown, black gloves and a chic, black bob. Despite her glamorous red carpet looks, Sweeney admits she’s much more low-key day to day. “In my normal life, I’m definitely a jeans and T-shirt, bare-faced kinda girl,” she says.
Ahead, Sweeney shares her five beauty and fashion essentials with CNN Underscored.
The actress shares that she previously used Laneige’s Water Sleeping Mask to keep her skin hydrated but has now switched to this editor-loved mask, which she leaves on overnight. Formulated with a peony and collagen complex, the mask locks in moisture and nourishes your skin while you sleep. “It has these little balls of collagen in it, and my skin is loving it,” she says. “I wake up looking hydrated, radiant and bouncy.” Sweeney is also a big fan of the brand’s vanilla Lip Sleeping Mask, which she uses “all day, every day.”
More from Laneige
Sweeney completes her off-duty look with a simple white T-shirt from Cotton On, which specializes in quality everyday basics at affordable prices. The brand’s signature tees and tanks start at $20, and most items are under $100. “I discovered Cotton On while filming in Australia, and I was obsessed,” she says. This Classic Organic Tee is made from 100% organic cotton and has a relaxed fit and a timeless crew neckline.
Sweeney swears by this affordable kitchen and beauty staple, which she slathers on her body for smooth, hydrated skin. “I order this coconut oil from Amazon. It’s amazing,” she remarks. “It smells delicious and feels so good on my skin.” Available in three different sizes, this cold-pressed and unrefined extra-virgin coconut oil can be applied topically or used for cooking.
Constant travel for work and hours spent in hair and makeup have taken a toll on Sweeney’s locks. “My hair is just so dead right now, and my ends are split horribly,” says the actress, who is also a global brand ambassador for Kérastase. To remedy this, she turns to the brand’s ultra-nourishing hair elixir. “I like using this hair oil; it really helps to bring my hair back to life,” she says. Formulated with antioxidants, essential fatty acids and a blend of argan oil, camellia oil and marula oil, this hair product conditions and revitalizes hair strands.
Sweeney says that while she’s become “more comfortable exploring and experimenting with different styles and shapes” on the red carpet, she is much more comfortable in jeans and tees. She singles out the iconic Levi's 501 jeans as one of her favorites. With a subtle vintage vibe, the mid-rise jeans are made from 100% cotton and have a loose, straight fit and five-pocket design.
