Since 2014, over 7.7 million Venezuelans have left the country searching for a better life far from the economic and political crisis triggered by President Nicolas Maduro's increasingly authoritarian government. Many of them had hoped that this election would be the first fair one in 10 years, and saw it as a chance they could potentially return home.
