(CNN) A drought that began more than two decades ago is growing worse across much of the Western US, with serious consequences for millions of people and ecosystems across the region.
Mandatory water restrictions are already in place and even deeper cuts loom in some states, while dry, hot conditions are fueling extreme wildfires.
