National security officials meet with big tech companies in preparation for 2020 election

New York (CNN Business) U.S. intelligence and law enforcement officials are meeting with tech companies in Silicon Valley Wednesday to discuss plans for the 2020 election, including combating online disinformation, according to two people familiar with the meeting.

Representatives from the FBI, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, and the Department of Homeland Security are attending the meeting, which is taking place at Facebook's headquarters in Menlo Park, California, according to the people familiar with the meeting.

The government officials are joined by staff from Facebook (FB), Google (GOOG), Microsoft (MSFT), and Twitter (TWTR)'s security teams, according to one of the people familiar with the meeting.

The California meeting comes 14 months before the 2020 presidential election. Earlier this year, FBI Director Christopher Wray warned that foreign influence campaigns targeting the U.S. have continued "virtually unabated."
