(CNN) The midterms lit a fire in Ryan Murphy, and a new organization he's formed aims to continue what he sees as a wave of positive momentum for the LGBTQ community.
Murphy on Sunday announced a new organization that in 2020 will "target anti-LGBTQ candidates running for office," he said in a speech at the 2018 TrevorLIVE Los Angeles gala.
"I want these hateful and wrong politicians to go and to stop polluting our moral and ethical ether," he said in his speech, according to a transcript provided to CNN. "Based on this fall, I think it's now possible to create a movement to protect and nourish our own."
The organization will zero in on 20 specific congressional races with candidates "who think they can get votes by hurting and discriminating against us," Murphy said.
Murphy is the executive producer of FX's "Pose," a series that, with more transgender series regulars than any other show currently or previously aired, has set a new industry standard for inclusion.
The mega-producer, also behind "Glee" and "American Horror Story" franchise, recently scored a lucrative deal with Netflix.
Murphy said the new multimillion-dollar organization will both fund candidates running against someone with anti-LGBTQ views and aim to increase LGBTQ voter registration.
Murphy named GOP senators like Mike Lee of Utah, Susan Collins of Maine and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina among his group's targets, as well as Rep. Steve King of Iowa.
"Let's show Rep. King that the Queens are not having it," Murphy said.
In addition to his organization, Murphy also announced a $50,000 donation to The Trevor Project.
