Jeff Goldblum returns to 'Jurassic Park,' joins 'Jurassic World' sequel

(CNN) Life -- and Universal Pictures -- found a way to bring Jeff Goldblum back to "Jurassic Park."

Well known for playing the snarky but charming Dr. Ian Malcolm in the "Jurassic Park" series, Goldblum will return to the franchise in the sequel to "Jurassic World," CNN has learned.

Starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, the film will be the fifth installment in the "Jurassic Park" series and the follow to the 2015 mega-hit.

The Hollywood Reporter was the first to break the news of Goldblum's casting.

"Jurassic" fans were quick to respond.

Goldblum starred in the original 1993 film, as well as "The Lost World: Jurassic Park."

But before Goldblum takes on prehistoric beasts, he'll take on a few Marvel heroes in November's "Thor: Ragnarok."

Directed by J. A. Bayona, the "Jurassic World" follow is set to open in June 2018.

Directors Steven Spielberg and Colin Trevorrow are among the film's producers.
