(CNN) Civilians caught up in Syria's civil war need help from the international community now more than ever.
The fighting, which began during the 2011 Arab Spring, has killed more than 500,000 people and displaced more than 6.3 million. Now, amid harsh winter conditions, the combat is edging in on the very places civilians fled to for safety.
In an interview with CNN, UN Deputy Humanitarian Coordinator for the Syria Crisis, Mark Cutts said, "This is a massive humanitarian crisis, we haven't seen anything like this during the nine years of this war."
