(CNN) In a few weeks, the temperatures in Michigan will begin to drop and the balmy summer months will be well and gone. In a hospice bed in Grandville, 91-year-old Morrie Boogart is deep in preparation.
Boogart knits hats -- 8,000 of them so far -- and donates them to the homeless. He's been doing it for 15 years, and even at his advanced age he still manages a hat every two days.
"Why do I do it? It just makes me feel good," he told CNN affiliate WXMI. As a nonagenarian on bed rest, he refuses to waste his time. Instead he is choosing, in his golden years, to think of others.
"This has been the best thing that's happened to me because I just stay in my room," he says.
Boogart's assisted living home, Cambridge Manors in Grandville, Michigan, is accepting donations of yarn and hand-made hats so Boogart can continue his good work.
"I do it awfully slow," he told WXMI.
Novice knitters could only dream of that kind of productivity.
