(CNN) Imprisoned former rap mogul Suge Knight is blaming singer Chris Brown and a West Hollywood nightclub for a 2014 shooting which left him wounded.
Knight filed suit Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court against Brown, fellow singer Pia Mia Perez and the owners of 1 Oak nightclub. He's alleging they failed to provide adequate security at a celebrity-filled party Brown co-hosted with Perez on the eve of the MTV Video Music Awards in August 2014.
CNN has reached out to representatives for Knight, Brown and 1 Oak for comment.
The former Death Row Records co-founder was shot seven times at the event.
The lawsuit does not name a dollar amount Knight is seeking, but does request that the defendants pay for his past and future medical expenses as well as any damages awarded by the court.
In the suit, Brown is characterized as "a known gang associate with a history of violence and had a well-documented track record of hosting events and or parties in which violence frequently erupted."
"As a result of the negligence of the defendants, one or more unknown individuals were allowed access to the event with weapons, including firearms," the complaint states. "As a foreseeable result, gunshots were fired by those admitted into the event and [Knight] was shot and seriously injured."
Brown has never been arrested for any alleged gang activity. He pleaded guilty to assaulting his then girlfriend, singer Rihanna, in 2009. Since then, Brown has had other legal troubles including having his probation revoked in 2014 after he left court ordered rehab.
In 2010 Knight sued rapper Kanye West and the owners of the Shore Club in Miami for a 2005 shooting at an event in which Knight was shot in the leg. A judge in that case ultimately ruled in West's favor.
Complications from the 2014 shooting have come up in court during a separate hit-and-run murder case involving Knight.
In January 2015, following an argument on the set of the biopic "Straight Outta Compton," Knight is alleged to have hit two men with his car. Months later he pleaded not guilty to one count of murder for the death of Terry Carter, one count of attempted murder in the case of Cle "Bone" Sloan, who was hurt during the incident, and one count of hit-and-run.
