Major GOP donors to pressure Kasich to leave race

Washington(CNN) Some major Republican donors, concerned about Donald Trump's early contest wins, are looking to clear the field some more for Marco Rubio and intend in the next few days to privately urge John Kasich to drop out, according to a major GOP bundler.

Kasich told CNN's Wolf Blitzer on "The Situation Room" that he was confident about his financial position and his path to victory.

"I haven't heard from any of the special interests to get me to drop out," Kasich said Monday. "We're signing up some significant Republican fundraisers and our political organization is expanding as well."

Rubio has already benefited from the exit of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush from the presidential campaign on Saturday, which freed up many establishment donors and politicians to quickly back him.

Many donors are nervous about nominating either Trump, who notched massive wins in New Hampshire and South Carolina, or Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who won a narrow victory in Iowa.

"We're raising money. We're doing fine," Kasich said. "I'm not sure the other people have all the money."

And a Kasich campaign official also pushed back.

"The only establishment people we are hearing from are people who want to endorse us or give us money," the official said.
