Washington(CNN) Wednesday is #BigBlockOfCheeseDay at the White House. But don't be fooled -- it's not about cheese.

On Wednesday, the White House celebrated its third annual Big Block of Cheese Day, or #BigBlockOfCheeseDay as it's known in the social sphere, where political leaders are taking online questions.

Internet users have a chance to chat with White House staff, members of Congress and senior cabinet members by tweeting at them using the hashtag #BigBlockOfCheeseDay.

The day is inspired by President Andrew Jackson's 1837 open house that featured a 1,400-pound block of cheese that he invited visitors to eat.

The day also takes inspiration from the political drama "The West Wing," when members of White House staff in the fictional Bartlett administration would accept meetings with people or groups with whom they don't normally speak.
