Story highlights
  • Award season has begun! Here's when to watch
  • It ends with the Oscars on February 28

(CNN) It's that time of the year again: Awards season is upon us.

Red carpets, high fashion and emotional acceptance speeches are all on tap.

Here's what's happening when:

73rd Golden Globe Awards: January 10

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association selects the best in television and movies in a ceremony that is usually looser than most awards shows (probably because adult beverages are served, along with dinner).

Comedic actor Ricky Gervais takes over the hosting duties from BFFs Tina Fey and Amy Poehler this year. "Carol," Todd Haynes' film about a lesbian affair in 1950s New York, leads the nominations.

The ceremony begins at 8 p.m. ET Sunday from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. It will air on NBC.

22nd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards: January 30

The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists honors its own in TV and film with these awards.

The film "Trumbo" is in contention for three awards, and Carol Burnett will receive the highest tribute, the SAG Life Achievement Award.

The ceremony will air on TBS and TNT at 8 p.m. ET from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

58th Annual Grammy Awards: February 15

Rapper/actor LL Cool J returns this year to host music's biggest night. Fellow rapper Kendrick Lamar leads the pack with 11 nominations.

Fans are mostly into this show for the performances, though the 2016 performers have yet to be announced.

The show will air from the Staples Center in Los Angeles at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.

88th Academy Awards: February 28

The Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles will be the site of Hollywood's biggest awards show -- also known as the Oscars -- which closes out the season.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will honor the films of the past year, and Chris Rock (who hosted the 77th ceremony) returns as host.

Nominations will be announced January 14.

The show will air on ABC at 7 p.m. EST.
